Voting is currently taking place for the shortlists by The Academy

1 August 2018: Cactus TV are pleased to announce that the Specsavers National Book Awards will return in 2018 to find the best popular books of the year in the lead up to Christmas. Hosted by Zoe Ball and following on from the success of the Zoe Ball Book Club which is also sponsored by Specsavers and shown on ITV, the awards will be held at the Royal Institution on 20 November. With highlights televised on ITV, the prestigious evening will be attended by high-profile authors, celebrities and book trade figures.

Launched to celebrate the best books of the year and help consumers choose titles for the busy festive gifting season, the winners of the 13 categories are chosen by the National Book Awards Academy – a panel of industry experts, including retailers, publishers, agents, authors, reviewers and influencers. Publishers will be able to submit books published this year from 3 September to 19 September. The longlist will be chosen by a small panel of industry experts including retailers and then the Academy will be asked to vote for both the shortlist and then the eventual winners.

Following the awards, the public will be invited to vote for their book of the year from the winners of each category, with the overall winner announced on 26 December. The categories include:

  1. New Writer of the Year
